Are they replacement files? Are those compressed and/or encrypted? Is it a patch file? How many of the game files need patched? What is that patch process entail? Do files need to be decompressed, patched, recompressed? There are a large number of ways that updates can be performed. It all depends on the developer and how they are deploying updates.

It will allow you to install the hotfix (2.0.49) on top of your existing installation, preserving all your local data (so you don’t have to re-import the games). I joined because I want to play Gabriel Knight and The Incredible Machine. I didn’t join GOG because I wanted to go into the folders and tinker with files. The onus is on them to fix a flawed update and do so quickly. I don’t see why the onus is on me, or anyone who doesn’t work at GOG to find a workaround for an error on an update I didn’t opt in on. I am having the same problem and am waiting for GOG to fix whatever bug is causing it.
